Background

What makes a writer and translator?

Some formative influences:

My mother, whose professional passion was teaching young children to read and write.

My father, who taught me my first German words and who completes cryptic crosswords in the time it takes to write in the answers.

My university tutor, who was a medical doctor with a degree in English. She was a ruthless marker and a great teacher.

My great aunt who played Scrabble with us every day when she came to stay.

My husband, who moved us to Switzerland and is my computer wizard.

Background

I have been working as a writer in Switzerland, the US and Japan since 1994, following a career in marketing with Diageo and Novartis in England and Switzerland. My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from the University of Surrey and an MBA from the London Business School and I’ve also studied fine art and graphic design in Zurich.

A British citizen, born in Germany, I am at home in Switzerland now, and divide my time between the Zurich Oberland and Laax in Graubunden.
